Course Summary
LESSON 1 - Introducing Alcohol-Wise - This lesson provides an overview of
ALCOHOL-WISE and tests your knowledge about alcohol-related issues. In this
lesson you will also be asked to complete a short survey and drinking
self-assessment.

5) eCHECKUP DRINKING SELF-ASSESSMENT - Researchers at San Diego State University
created the eCHECKUP. This exercise allows the student to review their drinking
pattern, personal risk factors, and drinking behaviors of other students. eCHECKUP
can help the non-drinker understand some of the drinking issues that friends,
roommates, and family members may be dealing with. eCHECKUP can be completed in
7-10 minutes.

substance abuse information specific to your campus.
LESSON 2- Understanding The Buzz - This lesson explores how alcohol is
absorbed into the body and the process of eliminating alcohol from your system.
We provide information about BAC and how that relates to level of intoxication.
1) ABSORPTION - This page explains how alcohol is absorbed in the body and the
effects of food and strength of alcoholic beverage on absorption rates.
2) METABOLISM - This page provides a brief explanation of standard drinks,
metabolism, and common myths about sobering up quickly.
3) BAC - This page describes blood alcohol concentration and what that means in
terms of drinking and driving. An electronic BAC calculator is available on
this page.
4) BAC FACTORS - This page explains the complex factors that affect blood
alcohol concentration.
5) UNDERSTANDING THE BUZZ - This page looks at the stimulant effects of alcohol
at low concentrations and the resulting "down feeling" that occurs as the blood
alcohol level rises.
6) BAC BENCHMARKS - This page includes a BAC chart explaining the general
effects of alcohol at progressive blood alcohol levels.
7) Lesson 2 QUIZ - 8 multiple-choice questions. The student must receive a

LESSON 3 - Levels Of Alcohol Use - This lesson looks at
perceptions of college drinking and how that shapes our attitudes and behaviors.
We also discover that personal choices about drinking can impact the lives of
fellow students.
